Claudia Kechkian brings over 30 years of experience in world language education, having taught at all levels from elementary through university in both Argentina and the United States. Her work across different educational contexts has shaped a long-standing interest in how languages are taught, how learners engage with them, and how authentic language and culture can be brought more meaningfully into the classroom.
She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at the Universidad de Alcalá in Spain, where her research focuses on the pedagogical integration of authentic materials and digital environments in language learning. She holds a Master’s degree in the Teaching of Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures from the Universidad de Alcalá and a B.A. in ESL from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. She is also a published author, with extensive work in Medical Spanish and Spanish for Specific Purposes, including McGraw-Hill’s Quick and Easy Medical Spanish.
Claudia currently serves as AATSP Exams Director and is the founder of Virtuolingua World Language Consulting. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with schools, universities, professional organizations, and international programs, developing educational initiatives, resources, and professional development opportunities for language educators and learners. Her work with the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) has included leadership at both the national and chapter levels.
At the center of her work is a belief that language learning should connect the classroom with the world in which the language is actually lived. Her current research and professional development work explore how authentic materials, digital environments, and emerging technologies can help educators create meaningful, culturally rich learning experiences while maintaining clear pedagogical purpose.
